“Dear Santa, is it too late to be good?” is a work born from deep reflection, inviting viewers to question the complex political and social situation in the Middle East. With a title mixing lightness and provocation, the piece poses a question as simple as it is universal: is it ever too late to change one’s actions and embrace goodness?

The decision to inaugurate the installation during the Christmas season, coinciding with the upcoming Holy Year, is no coincidence. This time of year—traditionally linked to peace, hope, and spiritual renewal—becomes an integral part of the artwork’s message. In this context, Christmas, a universal symbol of love and redemption, becomes an opportunity for introspection and self-examination in a world marked by conflict and inequality.

The installation draws inspiration from the iconic image of the Nativity Scene, deeply rooted in collective imagination, with the traditional stable that welcomed Mary and Joseph awaiting the birth of Baby Jesus. However, this shelter transforms before the viewer’s eyes, recalling a painfully current reality: a refugee tent. A fragile refuge meant to offer comfort and protection, while symbolizing a state of extreme vulnerability.

In this symbolic overlap between past and present, an indissoluble connection emerges: the land of Palestine, once the stage of sacred and historical events, now a landscape of conflict and division. The work raises a provocative question: what would the birth of Jesus look like today? In light of current events, that birth could tragically coincide with his own death, reflecting a world where life in many places remains under constant threat.

“Dear Santa, is it too late to be good?” thus becomes a warning—an invitation to reflect on the universal value of life, on the power humans wield over it, and on the absurdity of a world where some lives are deemed less valuable than others. It is a work that offers no answers, only urgent questions, pushing viewers to examine their own choices, values, and commitment to building a future of peace and justice.
