Simone Bertugno was born in 1963 in Rome, where he lives and carries out his artistic activity. After completing his studies at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome (Diploma in the sculpture section, 1987), he found his dimension and the possibility to develop his expressive path in the fields of sculpture and theater. His work focuses on space, perception, and sound. In 1995 Le Ombre delle Idee, solo exhibition, Ex Convento di Sant’Agostino, Pietrasanta and Toward a more perfect union, San Francisco Prize, competition and exhibition of the monumental sculpture project for the reorganization of Union Square in San Francisco. His debut in 1987 with Fiumara d’Arte, group exhibition, Galleria Banchi Nuovi, Rome, curated by Filiberto Menna. Beyond various other exhibitions, from 1989 to today he has devoted a remarkable amount of work to theater, including the creation of 75 masks for Mozart’s Don Giovanni directed by Mario Martone at Teatro San Carlo, Naples (2002). As a stage designer, one of his most interesting experiences came from the artistic direction and development of two projects for EXPO 2002, the Swiss national exhibition, and later the set design of the exhibition 10¦10 at Docks En Seine, Paris, commissioned by Musée de design de Lausanne-Mudac, Switzerland (2010). As a painter, he is present in public and private collections with numerous paintings created for various clients. A versatile artist, he is also a composer with numerous musical creations: he worked for two documentaries by Carlo Lizzani and composes soundtracks for audiovisuals and TV broadcasts. Since 2008 he has been part of the EPSILON INDI group as author, composer, and multi-instrumentalist. In the same year, he created the soundtrack, with Sergio de Vito (Epsilon Indi), for the film by Giuseppe Gaudino and Isabella Sandri Per questi stretti morire presented at the 67th Venice Film Festival, Orizzonti section, and in competition in 2013 at the Parma International Music Film Festival.
