Enzo Aiello (Petronà, 1963) lives and works between Rome and the United States. He is an artist dedicated to the creation of artistic mosaics and is highly specialized in the restoration of ancient mosaics. He trained at the Vatican Mosaic Studio and further developed his mosaic techniques at the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli and the School of Ravenna. In 1993 he collaborated with Rinaldo Piras on the creation of mosaics for the Italian fashion house REPLAY; in 1998, again together with Rinaldo Piras and artists Ginzel and Jones, he created “Oculus”, 301 mosaic eyes for the New York City subway at the World Trade Center. In 2003, together with Luca Buvoli, he created “Dov’è la Vittoria?”, a 3m x 4m mosaic in polychrome marble and glass paste for the Auto Ricambi gallery of Matteo Boetti in Rome. In 2005 he taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ravenna. In 2009 he created Mater Ecclesiae, a 2m x 3m mosaic in glass pastes and gold on the façade of the Catholic church St. John and Paul in Sewickley, Pennsylvania, USA.

HUFO is his first independent contemporary art project, distancing itself from mosaic techniques to address the controversial theme of circumcision.
